Art and sustainability, in your letterbox
I'm Ana, and I sign my paintings AJPM. The Solarpunk Mail Club brings together my two biggest interests: art and sustainability. Every piece starts with nature and the life around me. Even in London, nature makes itself known, in the foxes that roam the streets, the horse chestnuts falling from the trees, and my neighbour's cat.
Solarpunk is a movement that asks a hopeful question: how can technology and nature coexist and lift each other up? It isn't about being a perfect activist in every part of your life. It's about doing what you have the capacity for, and the small things everyone can do to shift how we think about our communities and the natural world.
Each month I paint an original piece and turn it into mail: a postcard print, a sticker, a challenge card and a letter about solarpunk, stamped with my own lino prints and wrapped by hand. I paint in organic, flowing shapes and spirals. I love seeing how the paint mixes on the palette and deposits on the canvas when dragged by my paintbrush. I find this technique especially striking with shades of blue and white which represents water, the essence of life on Earth.
Questions
Before you joinWhat is solarpunk?
Solarpunk is a hopeful movement that imagines a future where technology and nature work together rather than against each other. Your first letter introduces it properly, in plain language.
What's in each envelope?
A postcard print of that month's original painting, a watercolour sticker, a watercolour challenge card, and an educational solarpunk letter hand lino printed with bugs and flowers. It all comes wrapped in a painted page, sealed with the club sticker, in a colourful envelope with decorative handmade lino print stamps.
What's the difference between joining and buying once?
Members get a new envelope every month for £9.75, with a new painting, sticker and challenge each time. Buying once gets you just the October envelope for £11.50.
When will I receive my mail?
Each month's mail is sent out as soon as sign-ups close, by Royal Mail 48, so UK members usually receive it within two to three working days. International mail goes by Royal Mail International Standard, which takes around three to five working days to Europe and about a week further afield, so international October mail may arrive in the first days of November. For October, join by midnight on Sunday 25 October.
How much is postage?
UK postage is free. International postage is £3.25, added at checkout.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes. You can pause, skip or cancel any time from My account: sign in with your email, enter the one-time code we send you, then open Subscriptions. You won't be charged for the next month.
Do I get the original painting?
You get a postcard print of it. The original painting stays with me, signed on the back with my AJPM stamp.
Can I do the challenges without joining?
Of course. Each month's challenge is shared online too, so anyone can join in. October's is picking up ten pieces of litter on your way home. Even one piece is one piece less.
